No Kannada in KSRTC Buses!!!
It is know fact that it looks like everybody wants to humiliate and
insult Kannada wherever they can, now it is the turn of our own great KSRTC
busses.
No doubt the Volvo Airavata buses are of great standard when it comes to
comfort service etc but it is very sad to see the way they are treating our
great Kannada language in those services.
None of the Volvo busses will play any Kannada songs or Movies; mostly
they will play other languages. Especially the buses which are going to
Chennai will play mostly Hindi /English and they will go to extent of
playing Tamil movies/audio also. Audio will be only Tamil or Hindi. Don't
these people find any good Kannada songs or goos Kannada classic movies ,
when I asked many times they dont give proper reply and say they don’t have
Kannada Cds or VCDs, once I myself offered to give Kannada Cds to play and
still they refused .
The story is same in many routes including Bangalore-Chennai,
Bangalore-Mangalore etc. I definitely feel Kannada language definitely
deserve better treatment by KSRTC and they are committing crime by insulting
Kanada like this. Have you ever see any Tamil Nadu bus or Andhra bus playing
Kannada song or movies , then why our own people to extent of playing Tamil
movies or audio here.
I would only request fellow Kannadigas to take it up and do something; I
know Banavasi Balaga and TotalKannada.com is doing lot of things on Kannada
along with thatsKannada.com. I would request all of you take it up and teach
lesson to these dirty people of KSRTC responsible for this outrageous act.

Teach our own Kannadigas to be
patriotic
I have been waiting for years to find some Kannadigas with whom I can
discuss this issue. I'm upset looking at the situation of Kannada in
Bangalore (even in Kolar,..).
Few things could improve this:
More Kannadigas in Karnataka, Good quality films in Kannada.
Most importantly, our film industry should raise our flag, should make
Kannadigas feel proud in
Bangalore.
Then we should see to it that no Tamil/Telugu/Malayalam films are released
in our state (currently this is the situation in other South Indian states).
(1) All south Indian movies should be first translated to our language no
matter how many outsiders are there in our state (this is the case in other
states)
(2) Newspapers like TOI which try to demolish our Kannada in our own
state should be thrown out (at least should be not supported)
(3) Whenever outsiders say anything bad about our state/language, react
immediately (if not, at least use Kannada Sangha contacts)
(4) Producers should invest more money (avoid "cheap budget, cheap
profit" tricks) and produce good quality films which every Kannadiga would
die to watch.
(5) Our own Kannadigas should stop praising other language actors and
seeing other language movies (do you remember who all went on strike against
Kannada in Tamil nadu during Kaveri strike? Rajni, Arjun sarja, ..the entire
Tamil industry)
Before all these, teach our own Kannadigas to be patriotic. Save KANNADA
in its own land.

TOI is against Kannada
I've been observing TOI for more than 5 yrs regarding what they publish
about Kannada. Let me tell you that its main intention is TO ATTRACT THE
MAJORITY IN THE CITY AND BECOME THE TOP1. You all know that anti-Kannadigas
are major in
Bangalore in terms of population, so TOI doesn’t care for what it is doing
against Kannada. Its target customers are NON-KANNADIGAS. Few facts are:
1) Read all articles about Kannada, you will find that the basic
(indirect) intention is to suppress Kannada.
2) The total portion of BT which is reserved for Kannada related articles
is less than 1/4th. (In TN, AP,.. how much do u get to see those language
articles??)
3) They keep criticizing the Government for not using English in all the
areas (indirectly replacing Kannada)
4) They try to give an impression that
Bangalore is Bangalore only
because of the people from outside, they would never say that Kannada is the
language of Bangalore.
5) When the ban was on non-Kannada films, they supported those films.
6) When Karnataka Government was insulted by the
Delhi high court, TOI made
fun of it.
7) If a bad Kannada movie is released, TOI spreads that to all. But in
Hyderabad, it gives
hype to any stupid movie that is released since Telugu people are the
majority there. Sometimes they just write some nonsense stuff which any fool
can make out that it is only to attract people in a cheap way.
Guys! Request you; please don't support TOI, its more cunning than the
1900's BRITISH.
Of course, they (unwontedly) publish some articles on Kannada just to
avoid people getting anti-Kannada impression on them. Being tens of years
old just does not make a paper great; it should WRITE FACTS AND NOT WRITE
STORIES.
I don’t want our people to go against other languages/states, but I want
our own people to save our language & culture. But, since the situation is
serious now, we all should FIGHT BACK.

Seven Points...
1. I went to a hotel called
Bombay kababs near
nandidurga road. I ordered in Kannada and he arrogantly replied - No
Kannada. Only Hindi, English. So I told him the order in English. Then asked
him how long he was in Bangalore. He said, "5 Yrs". So I asked him how come
he doesn’t know Kannada. He again replied arrogantly "Because it is not
necessary" . I did not know what to do as I was alone. But I told him to
cancel my order. He was taken aback for a minute. I repeated what I said. He
gave back my money and I took it and left.
We can make a difference. If more people go there and do the same, he
will learn a bitter lesson. Also, we should avoid spending our hard earned
money in such places. If someone is so arrogant as to not learn our language
even though he can make money, we should hold our pride and walkout of such
places. There are some who will kick them. But if we cannot do that, the
least one can do is not to do business with such people. Make it a point to
share such incidents with other Kannadigas so that they do not do business
with such people.
2. One more thing all can do is when you receive a marketing call on your
cell, reply only in Kannada. After all, they want to do business from you.
They will talk. This happened many times with me. If not, they will send
another person who will speak Kannada. Remember - Customer is King. So
whenever you are spending money make sure the beneficiary speaks Kannada. If
not, there is dime a dozen other places. Also, this will force people to
employ localites in jobs.
3. Also make it a point to help other Kannadigas wherever you can. If you
need a lawyer, go to one from our state. Need a doctor, go to one from our
state. Need to buy something, go to a shop owned by someone from Karnataka.
You may find it difficult sometimes, but nothing comes easy. This way you
will help our Kannada people. This is what people from other states do which
is why they do not have such problems.
4. Whenever you see auto drivers with Karnataka flag on their vehicle,
please tip him and tell him why. I do this regularly & this makes them
proud. This will encourage others to do the same. If you are proud of being
a kannadiga, please spend for this cause. When I get down in railway
stations many auto drivers come to me, but I always choose an auto which has
something in Kannada written on it. Believe me even if the driver asks for
more, you won't mind paying.
5. I went to a hotel and the waiter came & spoke in English. I replied in
Kannada & he said he doesn’t know Kannada. So I told him to send another
waiter who knows Kannada. I got another local waiter & I tipped him well.
You can even just walk out if there is no Kannada person there saying you
wont be comfortable.
6. Lastly, whenever selling any property sell it only to a kannadiga even
if you get a little less. At least that piece of property will remain part
of Karnataka.
7. If you hear that some Kannada movie is good, make it a point to see
it. We have to encourage our industry. Aptha Mitra is a great movie. Make
sure you see it with your family. Only then will we get good movies in
Kannada. There was a recent program called Kannadave Satya. Make sure you
encourage such programs. Attend them & show your support.
I have listed a few ways in which we can make a difference without
getting into a fight. Please think of such ways in everything you do. Just
getting angry won't help. Do something - Whatever you can. Share this sort
of information and it will encourage others to do similar things.

Kannadigas are Kannada's first
enemies
I am a Tamil. I found lot of things mentioned about Tamils. I agree that
Tamils are Language savvy, where ever they go they carry their culture,
language etc. Still I want you to remember one thing, most Tamils can't
speak Hindi, and for the same reason, they are the first community who show
interest in learning Kannada, once entering
Bangalore. But the
Bangalore environment is not that favorable.
I work for an IT company, we have few Kannadigas in our team, they never
speak Kannada and most people don't know that they are Kannadigas, they are
very proud to expose themselves as North Indians, I don’t what is great in
showing one as North Indian. They are also equal to us. In office, even if
we (Tamils) approach them and request them to teach some basic words in
Kannada, they will immediately refuse and say, harey yaar, learn Hindi.
So tell me now, problem exists not only with non-Kannadiga's but also
with Kannadiga's.
Still there are Tamil fanatics that we can't help out, as there are
fanatics in each and every part of life. So what I feel is, Kannadigas
should be first proud of their mother tongue, they should not feel ashamed
of speaking Kannada. After that find the response from other communities,
especially Tamils, because they are the one who must learn Kannada, since
they don't know Hindi.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Kannada’s state is under threat
That there are many south Indians in
Bangalore is old story.
Presently we are seeing an invasion of North Indians. These are very hard
core. South Indians try to learn our language. Over a period of time, they
do pick up and be like others. But North Indians are truly language-blind.
They use Hindi to control south Indians. Some how they feel superior to
South Indians. They do not know which language is spoken in
Bangalore.
They do not learn Kannada even they stay for 10 years. I have not seen a
single (really just one) NI who has learnt Kannada, in the last 7 years. Has
anybody of you seen them. I suppose South of Bangalore is suburb of Delhi.
Did I hear somebody say Kannada is going to be spoken only in the
kitchen? He was wrong! It already is. Around BTM layout, I see a couple of
bikes zoom past with MH, CG; registration. I walk further up to the 100ft
main road. There were about half a dozen DL, MP, UP and even SK, AS
registration vehicles. I hired an auto to go towards Forum mall. The auto
was blaring Hindi songs from Radio city.
In Forum Mall, I could not make out if the mall is in
Bangalore or in Gurgoan?
Ruing my fate, I checked in to Big bazaar. It was shade better; I could hear
some Telugu and Tamil. I was happy; I could see some of our people. On the
way back, I could see a Northie guy shouting at an Auto person in Hindi.
Walking back my home; I could see waves of young men in groups of 2 or more
talking Hindi loudly and guffawing. I hurried back, running for cover from
the hot blast of Hindi. Once within 4 walls of my home, it was a relief!
Wow! I am back in Kannada land.
And you say Bangalore
is in Karnataka, the capital of Kannada Kingdom! Unfortunately, when some
body wants to say that there is no place for Kannada in Bangalore, he would
throw in the words like cosmopolitan, IT capital.
God! Stop so called development of
Bangalore immediately. I am
already an outsider in my own state capital! I want to flee this place!!

Kannadigas are not letting
Tamilians to learn Kannada
The problems with Bangalore culture is basically with the Kannadigas than
with the other people ....I am a Tamilian and have found no ways of learning
Kannada in Bangalore because, you either manage your way through Tamil/Hindi
(yes I know Hindi well) ...even if we try to learn Kannada, the very own
Kannadigas would laugh at us for some petty mistakes while still in the
learning process and ask us not to try speaking in Kannada at all ..Now this
is not our fault.
At last you guys have realized the impact of Hindi culture over
Kannada..THIS WAS WHAT WE HAD REALIZED 40 YEARS BACK THROUGH ANTI HINDI
AGITATION ... If Tamil Nadu had accepted the Hindi invasion like Karnataka,
then you would have found Chennai as the present Bangalore ...not knowing
what culture to follow ..what language to speak....
I know every North Indian given a choice between Chennai and
Bangalore to work would opt
for Bangalore ..why? Its for just one reason ..THEY CALL BANGALORE AS A
NORTH INDIAN CITY LOCATED IN SOUTH INDIA.
So Kannadigas - its in your hands ...stop blaming on others for not
learning your culture ..stop banning non-Kannada movies being screened in
Bangalore ...Instead Market your own Movies to the highest level ...I’m sure
the more you market the better response you would get.... and WHO SAID
PEOPLE IN CHENNAI DON'T ENCOURAGE NON TAMIL MOVIES .....if you guys didn’t
know , we have all the major HINDI release running to packet houses in the
opening week like any other place ..all the TELUGU and MALAYALAM
blockbusters get a decent run at various theatres in the city ....Its just
that Kannada producers don't market, there are no takers for Kannada movies
...
Encourage Kannada in public places in
Bangalore ...then you will
find that Tamilians would be the first to learn and master it.

Kannadigas should support
another Kannadiga
All I suggest a kannadiga is he should first support other kannadiga. If
there is no unity among our selves we cannot force other state people to
learn our language. I have a recent experience with regarding hostage crisis
of my god Annavru. One of my friend was telling me let Dr.Raj be in forest
forever so that there will not be any violence in karnataka. He is also
kannadiga. I know if his father/son was in same state as our annavru he
would not have thought a second to give whole country to Veerappan for the
release of his father/son. That's how our kannadigas cut a sorry figure in
most of the cases. Always their pride for their tradition and homeland will
at nadir. I have observed this in lot of the educated kannadigas in US and
India. I told him
that if his son comes late from his school by 2-3 hours he will run to
school to see the problem and see to it that he comes back home. Why it is
not if it is a case of others. In fact I am not a kannadiga by birth but I
am proud that god has given me Karnataka, the land of sandalwood where I can
feel the Kannada Kampu. As Our great poet Ranna of hale Kannada told 'kanasallu
nenevudenna banavaasi deshavam' I breath the Kannada kampu as long as I
live... Until unless our kannadigas learn to respect each other even god
cannot do anything to uplift sagging spirits of Kannada.

Preethiya Kannadigare, It is with great pain and anguish that I share my feelings on what is happening in Karnataka to the aboriginals of Karnataka in the recent past.
1. Karnataka was formed to satisfy the wishes of millions of Kannadigas in just the same way any other states such as Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Tamil Nadu was formed.
2. In Bangalore, to day, the percentage of Kannadigas to the total population is decreasing day by day, thanks to the "Others" flowing into the city in search of . Better Climate . Calm city . Job opportunities . "Adjusting" natives . Any language is OK here . Many more reasons.
3. Due to globalization of economy, it has become difficult to stick to one region or state to fulfill one's ambitions/goals and whatever. This forces people to look for better opportunities , migrate to different countries, different states and prosper. This is not an undesirable one.
4. In Bangalore, you find Andhrites, Sindhis, Gujarathis, Marathis, Keralites, Sikhs, Anglo-Indians etc., living peacefully in the state without causing undue tensions to the localities and to themselves unlike "Others".
5. What is undesirable however is, . Taking undue advantage of mildness and goodness of
locals (in this case Kannadigas).
Please visit Okalipuram, underneath the flyover linking Sirsi Circle and Narasimha Raja Road, Shivajinagar interiors, Krishnarajapuram, Attibele etc. you can Tamil Songs blaring on the Loud speakers almost 24 hours. Shivajinagar is the un-official capital of Tamilnadu and shortly Bangalore will be too. Bringing more and more of their own "Others" into the state when the locals can cater adequately to the need and disturb the natural balance prevalent. (Please visit BEL, BEML, ITI, factories of Bangalore and many software majors in Bangalore and you find locals hardly in number when compared to organizations such as Banks, MRL, CRL etc. In Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore, Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, and such other places where you find hardly any "Others" for their states.). Many of these "Others" recruit only graduates hailing from PSG of Coimbatore, Anna University, Madurai Kamraj University, Calicut University and such "other" universities and the localities are just not considered just because "that" candidate can speak "Other's" language. Never make an attempt to learn local language and force the locals to communicate to them in "other" languages only. Go and visit cities such as Chennai, Hyderabad, Madurai, Coimbatore and check for yourselves if you can see one kannada cinema! Let alone finding one cinema theatre showing kannada movie, you will not find even posters to that effect. This is how the "others" are treating us. We must be ashamed of this!
6. This is not enough, they capture innocent, cultured, god fearing and mild people like Rajkumar and make Kannadigas' life miserable as though they own this land for centuries and kannadigas are hapless servants of Tamilians. Infact, the demands of Veerappan are actually not of his at all. They are so much political in nature that it is the plot of avaricious people like Vaiko, Swamy, etc. (You know who are the others after all). Why the hell Veerappan should bother about Cauvery River Issue when he only requires amnesty and may be some grand some money! Why the hell he requires Tamil to be made the state language when he can neither write or read Tamil, let alone any other language. This is the plot of vested interests of some Tamil extremists who have fostered great nationalistic (!) leaders such as Veerappan, Jayalalitha,Shivarasan, Subramaniyan Swamy and such other great patriotic souls who took this country for a ransom in the recent past!
If such extremism can happen it will only happen in Bangalore and karnataka just because we are peace loving and courteous people. What is the solution? Get Rajkumar out of the devil's clutches first and then insist on these:
1. Make Kannada a compulsory language to be taught in all schools at least till 7th standard. If some schools do not agree, cancel the recognition, there are umpteen interested school developers to solve this problem.
2. Insist on the fact that every organization existing in Bangalore should hire localities wherever possible. We need people like Bal thackery in Bangalore to straighten this out.
3. Check the infestation of these "others" wherever possible and ensure Kannadigas are given prominence while entering the schools and colleges especially professional courses. If you do not get satisfied by my suggestion, please go and check the colleges and universities in Tamilnadu and Kerala and you find hardly 0.01% kannadigas getting seats and admissions there.
4. Insist that every "Other" Government official residing in karnataka should learn kannada in the next 1 year and should correspond only in Kannada and restrict facilities like Ration Cards and such other benefits to those who do not wish to come into this.
5. Ban the entry of great souls like Vaiko, Subramaniyan Swamy and such other political goondas.

I read the articles in Other's Opinions and agree with their comments. I was born in Karnataka and so were my parents and
grandparents, albeit our forefathers were not from Karnataka. But for all we know, we are Kannadigas and take pride in calling Karnataka our home state. I agree with the others when they say that most Kannadigas do not take pride in their origin. I live in USA and I have to visit quite a few video stores to find Kannada movie/audio cassettes while there are rows and rows of Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam cassettes. I feel one thing we need to improve is our
entrepreneurship spirit. Kannadigas presence is hardly felt in our state let alone outside like USA. Another thing I would like to add is that Kannadiga parents need to cultivate pride and awareness for our
language, heritage, history, folk art, culture related to Karnataka in their children. Making Kannada first language in schools is definitely an important step. And for all of us Kannadigas outside our country, speak the
language, educate yourself on all the good aspects of Karnataka, impart this knowledge to others, speak with pride when you refer to your birth place, contribute in any small way possible towards this goal and feel proud to be a Kannadiga from India. It is my request to the site developers to include educational articles on the history of Karnataka, our tourism spots, arts local to Karnataka, folk music and dances of Karnataka, foods local to Karnataka, the different dialects of the Kannada language their origin and the people who speak them. I want to know more, a lot more about the state I was born and brought up in. Thanks for creating this opportunity to share my thoughts.

Wherever you go, you find other people. I think, those people have never tried to learn "Kannada" once in there life. They can Live ,survive with out knowing "Kannada" in Bangalore. Because wherever they go, they do things in their own language or Hindi or
English. And everyone response in these language. No one insist them to talk in "Kannada" .That are major problem with us. I have seen people who are staying in Karnataka for 30 years, they still don't know how to speak kannada. This is because, they are getting whatever they want in their own language. Films and music are the other two things which are ruining our language. It is hard to find kannada movies running in bangalore. I have never seen, showing kannada movies in most of the theaters. These theaters are branded for particular
languages. If you count total number tamil movies running in bangalore is 4 to 5 times more than kannada movies. First of all, we should not allow other language movies to run in bangalore. If don't do this, we are definitely going to loose our bangalore. I think with in few days bangalore will become part of tamilnadu, if we don't take action against this.

During the kaveri riots i was on the streets protesting till our protests were taken up by a gang of hooligans their actions by no means be equated with that of the really concerned people look its very nice to talk about non-violence may be politically correct also but is it really worth. I go to certain areas in bangalore and find it difficult to speak in kannada. Is it worth that some people who have lived in bangalore for years do not know to speak in kannada, for they don't bother to
learn. Is it worth people from different states forming gangs here & threatening people
here. All this occurred because we have wrapped ourselves in the blanket of so called athithi satkara and our tolerant culture what we have to remember is that when the athiti also have certain obligations. When he forgets these, he ceases to be one that's what is happening in Karnataka.
I'm by no means a person who encourages violence but there are certain times when violence becomes the only way out cancers require radical surgery cosmetic touchups wont help by this i don't mean go around beating up anybody who's not from here but insist that such people transact in kannada. Make kannada as a compulsory language for every one in CBSE,ICSE,etc.Make the knowledge of kannada pre requisite for entry to professional courses be more assertive. Violence is fruitless but sometimes little doses of assertiveness can do wonders( please go to madras once on your own and look how the kannadigas there live before commenting on how we should treat others). Remember the urdu news riots people who got killed were students just like you and me.Did they deserve that think, be non-violent adare ahimse asahaykathe agabaradu.

Namaskara Swami !. At last I have come across a person/group who has the same feelings and thoughts about the status of kannada. I read your comments in the front page. Your views especially supporting kannada films is quite great. Likewise even I have
analyzed the situation of kannada ,it's peak and downfall since a long time and hence want to share my views with you. My views may be complicated or irritating but it is straight from a wounded heart. ------- As told by you it is not the Non-kannadigas but a large section of nerve-dead and prideless kannadigas who are responsible for the downfall of kannada in all fields. For example if you take filmland a Tamilian encourages good tamil films and for bad films without commenting negative on it he comes to its rescue if somebody complains about it. This kind of attitude is not their in kannadigas not just in respect of filmland but almost in all fields. Now in my view there are several actions which are to be taken to rejuvinate the kannada pride in all fields.
Although some of these points may be of sheer
aggression it is the only way to make things happen as only agression can break all these barriers.
1.) Make kannada a compulsary language along with english for everybody seeking primary education in karnataka. Kannada as a academic subject must contain exercises which are step-by-step very competitive so that at the end of SSLC every youngster must be well versed in kannada and can never forget kannada. Also the maximum lessons in the subject must be about prideness of kannadigas, the situation of kannada, the challenges etc., so that one gets mentally equipped to be a good kannadiga. This also makes kannada sahithya healthier.
2.) Many people who discuss with me do not agree that films and entertainment plays an important role in making a language lovable in today's generation. One must see that downfall of kannada came side by side with the downfall of quality films in kannada. People started to deviate to other forms of entertainment breaking the emotional bond of their own language. Slowly it happened in other fields also after the introduction of satellite television. So our filmland must make sure that they provide quality films consistantly and other language films must release only 6 months after their release in its own region.
3.) Hate kannadigas (Bahishkara) who does not want to learn kannada or are supporting other languages at the cost of kannada. They must be punished much higher than similar Non-Kannadigas. All these and lots more is what I think is the only way to make dreams of every pride-filled kannadiga come true.

Our position in our own State
Karnataka. Please read the same and think about it. It is indeed a high time that kannadigas come out of their self-imposed exile. Friends, it is really high time ! ! ! But, the main concern is to provide Kannada, its lost place in its own state and we need to gather some views as to what concrete steps could be taken by the Government to ensure this. All schools making Kannada as a compulsory language for ALL students. There should be no choice in this regard. and no special consideration for CBSE/ICSE schools Need for communication in Kannada at commercial centers. It feels so disgusting when you don't get a proper answer when you converse in Kannada, in various shops in Brigade Road, Commercial street, MG Road. As Dr.Shashi, had aptly pointed out that, the younger generation who can speak in Kannada, feeling out-of-fashion to converse in their language. The convent going crowd in Bangalore. I am sure most of them definitely know to speak and can speak in Kannada.
Reducing the impact of Non-Kannada movies on the theatres in Karnataka. Well... people are definitely free to view the movie of their choice of their language. There are arguments that, the Kannada film industry is in rags. But at the same time, how much footage was given to quality movies. A MASTERPIECE like Bhoomigeetha which won the just went un-noticed. Beladingala Baale, Amruthavarshini, Nammoora Mandara Hoove and many more movies, were classics. But few of them had to even struggle with Non-Kannada movies to get theatres for their release. It is so disgusting to note that a movie "DEEPAVALI" , a light movie, by the noted directory Dinesh Babu, featuring TOP STARS Ramesh and Vishnuvardhan, was in the boxes for quite sometime before its release. Well... our film makers need to know that they have to make better movies to sustain the competition. But it is sad that quite a many, good movies don't deserve their credit, many-a-times. Many non-kannada movie is released in at least 7 theatres, allover Bangalore, and for some movies it is over 10 theatres. Why Non-Kannada movies need to be imposed so much to overshadow the regional cinema. HOW MANY GOOD KANNADA MOVIES ARE SCREENED IN THE NEIGHBORING STATES??? Can anybody give me instances of neighboring states screening any of the SUPER HIT Popular Kannada Movies, in recent years like OM , JanumadaJodi , Amruthavarshini ,Upendra ,Shabdavedhi, leave alone other movies. And here in the capital of Karnataka and even in a remote village, every week, the people are loaded with tons of non-Kannada movies pouring in. This is really of some concern. In case, we have some more views in this regard. Let us consolidate them as soon as possible, and we post the same to all newspapers immediately.

Broad minded kannadiagas are taken advantage of..they respond to people with only one basic idea to help them, a very difficult thing for others which will never go away from a kannadiga i suppose. (hutta guna suttru hogadu..!!) It is very necessary that we insist that people talk to us in our language kannada when they are in karnataka. Being born and brought up in Bangalore i am all for Kannada (i enjoy talking in kannada) though this is not my mother tongue language. Masti Venkatesh Iyengar was a very noted kannada poet, Why did he choose to write in Kannada..? It is one of the best literal language. Pronounciation to writing can be perfectly synchronized in kannada, the best. I will disagree with the whold world disputing against the above. May your effort for the awareness of Kannada reach one and all.

I quite liked your site.
Though there is lot of improvements to be made , still I appreciate the step you have taken to light up the awareness of we kannadigas. Well, I am in US from past 1.5 yrs. When I say, I am from blore, people ask me , So you know Tamil ?You know Telugu?I ask them, why do you expect me to know those languages? The answer I get is ?Common yaar, Blore is a cosmopolitan city? I don't blame them for
that. As you have mentioned , we Kannadigas are only responsible for this. Its not wrong to admire and appreciate others culture /movies. but its very very wrong to put our
culture, language down. People who do such things really do not know our culture or history or anything?. Anyway, its really a nice way to start up this kind of
awareness. Good for you guys, whoever started this movement. It would be really nice, in future , we get to see, lot of kannada
language in this site.

I am writing this from Singapore. I lived in Andhra Pradesh for the sake of my Job for nine years, then I retuned to Bangalore and stayed there for three years before moving to Singapore. What you have put in this site is completely true. There is no place for Kannada any where out side Karnataka, now the situation is becoming that it will extinct from its own state as well. It is purely because of nature of kannadigas. When I was in Bangalore I was always fighting with shop owner, street vendor and other kannadigas who were talking other language with their
customers. Yes first thing we need to stop screening other language movies and even channels over cable TV until other states give the same status to kannada. It should be in give and take manner. Kannadigas should stop seeing any program with in karnataka which is in other language. But is it possible? I had seen main serials in DD1 were telecasted in telugu in AP, I heard they do the same in Tamil Naadu, but everything is shown in hindi only in Karnataka, why? because all kannadigas see that and enjoy it with out any objection. Only Handful of us do
recognize the discrimination done to our language. Others won't even think that is important. How to change this situation.

Kudos to totalkannada.com for bringing something important to the forefront. While it is heartening to see emotions being expressed on the issue of the impending extinction of Kannada as a language, I believe, with due respect to others, that several of the approaches they have suggested will only make the situation worse. I am, like some of the other people who have responded, not a Kannadiga by birth, though several generations of my family have been living in Karnataka. We have, over these generations, forgotten most of our Tamil roots. The Indian language I speak, read and write best is Kannada. Imposition of a language and forcible use of it will never work. The only way we can make Kannada flourish is by creating incentives and an atmosphere for the language to flourish. Important steps in this direction, will be to increasingly make it popular and find use for it in our daily lives in this day of Information Technology. Kannada software, kannada books, kannada web sites, information, etc. should be fostered. We, the passionate ones, should teach our kids Kannada and make them better in it than we are! We should learn to speak sentences in Kannada -like Mr. Narayanaswamy, we should be more enterprising, and we should make our presence felt in benevolent ways. Marketing is more important these days than substance. We should sell Kannada as "THE" language. We should proudly spread the message... more in terms of the greatness of Kannada rather than through
outrage. People who don't care for Kannada cannot be forced into liking it or appreciating it. Things can be improved, however, if those of us who feel passionately about Kannada try hard to keep it flourishing. Like the survival of the fittest, we shall, over time, form a population of Kannadigas, who like the hardcore people from our
neighboring states cherish and fight for Kannada. The rest of the pseudo Kannadigas will fade away anyway.

It was really a sweet bitter feeling to see someone taking the initiative to talk from the heart and share similar feelings with fellow Kannadigas. I agree with every opinion and suggestion poured out of those wounded Kannadiga hearts. Itz high time we have realised this and taken any sort of an action. "Mullannu mullindale tegeyabeku" These 'Others' need to be taught a lesson, made to behave decently. Itz time we sanctified our land from these intrusions. It would be great if the State government and the media take an active role in doing so. It definitely applies to every Kannadiga more so. I live in the US and how much I look forward to meeting a Kannadiga outside at school or work. There are some instances when I have met a few and would want to talk heartily to them in Kannada. But all my enthusiasm drops when I receive only English replies. That is so disgusting, I can only start hating that person after that even though he/she is nice to me. Why this inferior feeling towards our language. If we can't save it, who else will??? I am sure I am not the only one who has faced such instances. Come on people, wake up, one day you don't want to hear Indians say Kannada....What??? Hopefully this site is reached by thousands and make a difference in how we Kannadigas treat our own Kannada.
My best wishes for the web developer and people who took a moment to share their feelings.

I would like to congratulate you on your efforts in putting up this site. I agree that there is an urgent need to protect kannada. I was recently in bangalore and i felt happy that at last i could speak kannada. But to my dismay even my own people, kannadigas
don't speak it, they give replies in english. We need to form some kind of kannadiga army or something to tackle this problem. Or we may loose kannada very shortly. I do believe
that kannada movies should be given much more importance.

First thing I did when I read this was to forward the url to all my friends from bangalore and karnataka. This is a real eye opener. All through my schooling and college days in bangalore I always wondered why many of my friends and classmates felt so shy to talk out in kannada in bangalore. Then when I started working I came across all the kind of people mentioned here and wondered why no kannadiga was interested in even discussing this menace. Years later when I am reading this, I am feeling very happy that atleast someone has come forward to discuss these problems existing in our state. Perhaps no other place other than Mumbai(I am not sure whether they screen other regional films in mumbai other than hindi and marathi and maybe gujrati) has this problem more
existent. It is high high time our people do something against this.

I was surprised to see the response my
innocuous letter to Rediff.com had on an inspired Kannadiga, you know what I am talking about! Looking back, I feel that at least the end
justified the means of that letter in being responsible for this site :-) Like you said, there are definitely a lot of good movies coming out in Karnataka, comparable on a percentage basis with other languages in terms of hits. Instead of
focusing only on movies, the "We recommend" could start covering current Kannada literature. You could invite some enthusiasts/poets/writers/critics to contribute a small column or run a small critic on latest works in Kannada literature. Like they say, you build and they will all come.

I am Prasanna from Frankfurt - Germany. Its very sad to see the state of kannada bhaashe in our own
state. The main problem is that the kannadigas somehow don't speak in kannada even though they have the
opportunity to. Here, in Frankfurt, there are many kannadigas but they speak either in Tamil or English or sometimes Hindi. And if I try to speak in Kannada, they (kannadigas) say, please speak in English so that others can understand. So, the main solution would be to make them speak in kannada when they can. The only hope is to educate the young children in Karnataka to speak in kannada. Hope to see more Kannada from all of U...

Dear totalkannada.com,
I am excited to visit this site (got the address through Udayavani). Actually I am in Taiwan at the moment and very happy to read the facts about Kannada & its situation in our own state. I think this is a good turn. I would like to share my experience in Bangalore. I am working in a MNC in Bangalore. I have my
collogues who are Kannadigas, Telugus,Tamilians, Malayalis, North Indians, etc. But when I talk to them - I will make them to talk in Kannada, Hindi or English, even I know Telugu & Tamilians. I have a good friend in my office who is from Kerala. He has been in Bangalore for 3 years (his mother
tongue is Tamil). His attitude is very good- today he is able to read Kannada books (mainly BMTC boards). It is always good to learn more & more languages, but this will apply to Tamilians also. Mainly they should know the
neighboring languages. It is only their attitude and nothing else. Hope the days changes and we will enjoy the good time in future.

Finally, I have found a website where I can find people who have the same feelings as I have about Kannada Naadu and Kannada Bhaashe! I read the opinions of your readers with interest. I think they have all hit the nail on the head: We are in part responsible for the state of Kannada today. But it is not too late. Kannada should get it's place in the sun which it richly deserves. I suggest starting a community discussion forum and set up an action committee online through totalkannada.com to talk to bring pressure on the 'Powers that be' to take steps towards making Kannada Naadu and Kannada Bhaasha stronger. You have my full support and cooperation for this. Totalkannada.com will be the first web site I will look for everyday when I turn on my computer!
